Senior Renewable Development Engineer - Energy (Multiple Locations)

Description Seeking a highly motivated individual who will support all aspects of project development for renewable energy projects (solar, energy storage, etc.). This person, part of the Energy Global Practice's Development Department, will be heavily engaged in working with a focused team to help develop and expand Burns & McDonnell's presence in the renewable energy market, and to define and implement our strategy for continued success moving forward in the ever-changing energy industry. This is a working position, with the successful candidate responsible for performing and completing the following responsibilities, developing necessary deliverables, and coordinating the completion of tasks by others, as necessary, in addition to other responsibilities and tasks as determined by Business Unit Managers and the Development Manager. Responsibilities include:
Leading technical proposal efforts for renewable (solar energy and energy storage) project development. Coordinating, as necessary, with AHJs, customers, and design leads to drive a customer solution within the required project standards. Leading project development efforts to coordinate a multi-disciplined support team to complete required tasks. Setting and maintaining project schedule to complete required tasks by established due dates to support overall development activities. Ownership and responsibility for timely completion of all project development activities assigned by the Business Unit Managers and Development Manager to complete necessary tasks on schedule. Leading engineering for projects in the pipeline. Must have the ability to multi-task among several projects at one time. Optimizing design to achieve economic drivers specified by Business Unit Manager. Evaluating and combining potential project sites and technologies to produce the most effective solar and storage energy solutions for our clients. Efficiently coordinating with discipline leads to drive site plans, racking plans, building plans, one-line drawings, BOP plans, substation plans, and other conceptual engineering documents and deliverables as required by the project scope. Managing approved bidders list, preparing requests for bid pricing, managing bid tabulation, and driving total installed cost evaluation of solar procurements. Understanding the optimal design applications and limitations and leading the evaluation of equipment. Providing streamlined project information and detailed bill of material to estimating. Driving efficiency in bid efforts. Effectively utilizing software and implementing practices and tools to improve the conceptual design and estimating efficiencies. Maintaining current knowledge of emerging solar technologies including pricing, and prevailing commercial information (delivery, major terms, etc.). Participating in industry conferences and publications to further expand Burns & McDonnell's presence in the renewable energy market, including the development of white papers and presentations at conferences. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical, chemical, or mechanical preferred) from an accredited program. 7 years of relevant experience required. A Master's degree can be substituted for one year of experience. Previous consulting engineering experience strongly preferred. Project development, project management, or renewable energy experience a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Due to the dynamic nature of the renewable energy market, the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies is a must. Willingness and ability to utilize IT to streamline work processes and approaches. Experience with estimating or designing electrical systems is preferred. Knowledge of and competence in PVSyst preferred. Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices is preferred. The position requires the ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within an aggressive and compressed schedule. The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial, as well as the ability to maintain the project schedule and achieve target due dates.
Salary Range:
$100K -- $150K
Minimum Qualification
Business DevelopmentEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
